I am a core Rajasthani at heart. From its cuisine, to its forts, from its cultural richness to its historical legacy, I have witnessed my janmbhoomi in all its glory and warmth since the time I was born.
I have lived a simple and enriching life as a child, and I always feel my place has kept me grounded. This reflects in the choices I make, whether it be the food that I eat, the value systems I have lived with and cultivated or even in the fashion choices I have made all my life.
I have learnt to very mindfully utilize my resources over time in creating a me -friendly wardrobe for myself.
My favorite fabric has been cotton throughout. Probably because it felt closest in comfort in the hot climate where I have lived. I have almost lived in cotton my entire life.
Block prints in cotton have been my favorite. The vibrant colors, the enchanting motifs have always felt refreshing.
My fascination and admiration for block prints made way to more heartfelt appreciation of the craft and its artisans when I started my clothing brand 5 years ago.
I felt promoting this craft through my venture was my way of giving back to the community. What can you do as a responsible citizen, then to support and endorse your indigenous crafts and crafts people.
Personally, I am so glad my fashion choices have always been in line with a deep-seated desire to work with the local artisan community and promote their work through my genuine efforts.
As a consumer, I feel every purchase we make from a local artisan contributes to their income. So, my intention is always buy local rather than running after anything that is imported or does not find its place on the rack for more than a week. My conscious choices have given me a sense of satisfaction that whatever little, I am contributing in some way to the local economy.
So, buying local is one of the many small ways through which I contribute to my country as its proud citizen.
Cotton, I always keeps me grounded, there is something about this fabric. It's soothing to the mind, body and soul, I feel. Other than its physical properties of being natural, light and breathable, it’s a high vibration fabric, as many who know energy endorse. India is a global leader in cotton and is one of the largest exporters of cotton textiles, supporting thousands of farmers and driving the nation's economy.
Personally, I have owned this fabric and have cherished it across all seasons over any synthetic one.
Incorporating cotton as my fashion choice is another way I hold on to my responsible consumer choices.
