We are witnessing festivities and celebrations in India already.
Now festivals are fun but they can be over-bearing sometimes especially for women.
Long hours in the kitchen organizing lunches and dinners, preparing festive treats, checking on the invitations etc etc. And if a woman is also working outside as a professional, times can be even more overwhelming.
However, we Indians enjoy the chaos of our festivals alongside family gatherings, sweet delicacies, shopping for gifts, receiving presents and everything that comes along.
Ask me, who has spent a lot of time away from home in another country. It used to be lonely and quiet.
There are a few thoughts I would like to share here.
I have realized over the years that there are some things that can make our celebrations fun and comforting especially when we are living in nuclear families.
अपने लोगों का साथ
अपने लोग जो काम में हाथ बटाएँ… साथ में प्यार से बनाएँ और खाएँ
और कई चीज़ों के अलावा, आपकी पोशाक
Most times, when we dress up for occasions we just can’t wait for the day to end and change into our pajamas.
Who wants to run around the entire day with an uneasy piece of clothing, however beautiful or expensive it is. With constant efforts to manage things, the sweaty humid afternoons, catering and serving family and guests, we need comfortable clothing, that feels effortless and in which you can live in your whole day.
Well, easy simple hacks can help you stay easy while you are also celebrating with your loved ones.
Cottons and mulmuls for me are my personal favorites. I can do a subtle gotta patti on a cotton kurta or a dupatta and enjoy the comforting feeling all day.
Or if I choose a silk or a crepe or for that matter any sheer fabric like organza, kota, chanderi or chiffon, I would love to have my mulmul inner underneath that would help me with a softer feel on my skin.
Fabrics that we generally choose for celebrations are luxurious or sheer like organza, silk, modal satin, crepe, silk blends, georgettes, chanderi etc. Most women feel uncomfortable wearing these fabrics directly on the skin. Either they are sheer, clingy or cause static charges.
This feeling can be really uncomfortable…right?
So, what is the option? Well, it's easy, get a soft layering of mulmul or 100 % cotton slip.
